So, rumor has it online sports betting used to be really sweet; I heard pinnaclesports was an excellent, reputable site until the US cracked down on this alleged integrity issue.  An article I read points to a 1999 study that over $380 billion is illegally wagered on betting.  Now, I am not an advocate of; well, if society does it.. then it must be right.  Because usually, I think people are pretty stupid, especially society.  However, this seems harmless to me because the money can be used in so many ways.  Think of all the tax money and money, in general, the state and the US can collect, insane.  Anyway, it appears sports betting is only allowed in several states where it was legal before a certain law was passed.
BUT WAIT!  There is still a way for you to bet!  centsports.com and it is sweet.  There aren't props or a ton of other options.. but it is free betting.  It's a simple concept; advertisers pay your profit.  You view some ads maybe click on a few of them and then you can make and win some bets.  You start at .10 and have to work your way up from there.  It can be a real challenge, and you can do up to 5 game parlays; there are some early bonus options to boost your account size.  You'd have to read more of the rules to see how they try to limit you a little bit, which makes sense.. I'm sure they don't want to be making $550,000 payouts on a daily basis. 
There are a lot of betting options, soccer leagues galore, the WNBA (I giggle everytime), NFL, MLB, college sports, NHL, MMA, tennis, Nascar are all available for wagers.  Thankfully, I have no clue about MMA, tennis, or soccer yet I routinely throw wagers down on them and lose, draining my bank account.  I believe they would call me a degenerate in Vegas.  This is part of the reason I'm sure I have never made it passed the magnificent account total of.... $5.50!  TA DA!  Sweet.  I know.  Guess where I am at after 1 year of this.  .10!  The starting point.  Thanks to the Marlins loss last night or I would have hit a 5 team parlay.  Back to the drawing board.

It started out as an extended family reunion -- not mine. It turned into an invaluable tale of the habits of the Nextel Cup groupie.

In four days, I saw first-hand rural America's loyalty to NASCAR.

Imagine, if you will, a summer vacation based on a celebration of family event: the baptism of my nephew, Blaise. The 5-month-old is the son of my wife's sister, Amanda, and her husband, Joe.

Joe hails from rural Nebraska, son of a farmer. He's the sixth of seven children -- five boys and two girls. Joe and Amanda were hosts to a family gathering at their four-bedroom home (with a basement). Four of  siblings and their families, as well as my family all communed there -- a head count of 20.

I knew I was about to partake in a weekend to which I'm not accustomed almost immediately. When all the guests arrived, the second task to be determined after sorting out sleeping arrangements was setting up stakes in Joe's backyard for horse shoes.

Even though Joe and Amanda enjoyed a backyard full of luscious grass.

The third task? Finding out the local time of Sunday's NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma, Calif.

During the course of the weekend, I found some Matt Kenseth paraphernalia around Joe's house -- a Kenseth hat, a Kenseth model car as well as a Hot Wheels size Kenseth car.

I asked Joe about them and he said Kenseth was his driver. Fair enough. I've always been more of a team sports guy, but I have had favorite tennis players -- I'd wake up at all hours to watch Jimmy Connors and later Andre Agassi when they played in majors at the Australian, French or Wimbledon tournaments.

Don Nelson has reached a milestone in his coaching career.  With the Warriors 133-120 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder Saturday, Don Nelson has won his 1,300th game as a head coach.  This puts him second to the great Lenny Wilkens who claims 1,332 wins.  In the first quarter Nelson nearly lost his cool with the refs but later calmed down to coach the Warrirs to a victory despit 17 careless turnovers.  The Warriors sloppy play was overlooked becasue of the outstanding numbers they put up on the scoreboard.  The Warriors scored over 120 points in 4 games this month alone.  They were led tonight by Stephen Jackson who had 26 with Maggette right behind him with 25.  The Warriors played without their starting center Andris Biedrins but the rookie Anthony Randolph is showing great potential for the Warriors.  The rookie scored just 4 points while grabbing 4 rebounds but he caused trouble for the Thunder in the paint altering a number of shots which resulted in misses.  His engery on the offensive glass is what the Warriors need for the future. Continue reading "Don Nelson Reaches a Coaching Milestone"

"Smoke" is in the 2009 Budweiser Shootout - Was It A Conspiracy? posted by Unique

Was this a conspiracy to make sure that one of the biggest idols and phenomenal drivers in NASCAR wasn’t kept off the Daytona track? Were the rules changed just to make sure that “Smoke” was happy? Were the rules changed to make sure the fans were kept happy? Were the rules changed for marketing and ticket sales purposes?

There may or may not be some truth to a few of these questions but I think many people forget that a number of teams have gone through mergers, acquisitions and partnerships; therefore, changes are inevitable to the rules and regulations. Change has been the norm these days for all of the things that have been occurring within this racing entity. Some people have been accepting the changes and some have been resisting but those are the reactions of change within any entity.

According to NASCAR.com the criteria are as follows:

• “Any owner outside of the top six in year end 2008 owner points whose driver is a past Cup Series champion that attempted to qualify for all 36 of the 2008 events (only one position will be filled per manufacturer and will be based on the most recent past champion per manufacturer).”

• “If an owner/manufacturer does not have a past champion driver, the next highest eligible owner outside the top six in year end 2008 owner points from each manufacturer will be eligible to compete in the event.”

NASCAR has indeed made a tremendous decision to revise the 2009 Budweiser Shootout criteria by implementing the “Wild Card” manufacturer entry rules. This event would have not been the same without Tony "Smoke" Stewart hitting the track. He is one of the greatest talents in this sport; therefore, it would have not been the same Daytona race event without him on the track.

Who is the best player, of their individual sport? It is a question commonly asked, and so rarely is there a diffinitive answer. With each sport, there are many players, who throughout the years, have given all of us fans reasons to say that this player or that player is the best. Now, when asking someone, "What is the biggest achievement in sports?", there is only one answer, and that is, win a championship. There are a lot of players, who have the numbers to argue their status as the best player of their sport, but if they don't have a championship to their name, they are automatically taken out of the conversation. Dan Marino posted great numbers as the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins, posting many records, but is never considered one of the best NFL players of all time simply because he never won the Super Bowl. So, if not having any rings automatically takes you out of the conversation of best player ever, shouldn't having the most automatically put you in the conversation for the best? As research shows, not only is that not always the case, in fact, it rarely is. In fact, there are only two sports were the top championship getter, is also considered the best that sport had to offer, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in Nascar tie with 7 championships, and Jack Nicklaus with 18 golf majors. Other than those two sports, all other leading championship players, are rarely heard of. Who is the greatest NFL player of all time? Name all the names that come into your head when asked that question, and there is a lot....Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, etc...now who has the record for most Super Bowl rings? The name is Charles Haley, played from 1986-1999, won 5 Super Bowl rings. The biggest surprise about Charles Haley, is not only does he not get a single vote for best NFL player of all time, he is yet to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Now, he has only been eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame since 2004, but he has not even made the list of top 15 finalists. He is the only player with the most championships not to be inducted into that sports Hall of Fame, and although the names may sound familiar, still none are considered the best.

5 Sports You Never Knew Existed posted by Ben

Here are 5 very bizarre, very real sports. The first two you've probably heard of, as they are Olympic sports. And some of these, you've probably actually played. Like this one:

5. Table Tennis: Also known as ping-pong, this sport is a Chinese tradition, and was introduced to the Olympics in summer of 2008. As you can probably guess, the Chinese won the gold in the event.

4. Field Hockey: Also an Olympic sport, field hockey is played on a soccer field. Like ice hockey, the players hold a stick, but attempt to hit a small, hard ball, into the net. The game is played with little, if any, face protection. Thus, many teeth are lost, just like in ice hockey.

3. Gaming: You know, like video games. Major League Gaming(MLG) holds championships to see who is/are the best player(s) in the video games of Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War 2, and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. Looks like you don't need to have a life to make a decent living after all.

2. Rock/Paper/Scissors: No joke! This is a real sport, with real championships in which the winner walks away with $10,000. The championships are televised on ESPN2. This is usually a game that decides who gets the ball first in a game of backyard football. Not a sport in which somebody should walk away with 10 grand.

1. Cup Stacking: Again, no joke. This is actually a real sport. In fact, some people are actually calling it the "Next Big Sport". I'm sorry, but I don't see myself sitting around watching a bunch of guys stack cups sky-high as fast as they can. However, this sport also has championships in which the players walk away with a boat-load of money. It sure makes you wonder why some people have to "work" for a living, while others can make a living off playing outrageous sports.

I'd like to take a few moments to discuss the five most intriguing professional sports. These sports give us something to live for at times. The top 5 will be based off of the skill it takes to play these sports, how much guts are involved in these sports, and the excitement they bring to the table.

5. Boxing: How many of you would like to be placed in a ring with a giant who's ultimate goal is to beat the living snot out of you? That's what I thought. This sport made the top 5 because of the guts it takes to play. However, it is not ranked higher because of the lack of excitement it brings to the table. I'm sorry, but two guys beating the snot out of each other isn't exactly my cup of tea.

4. Baseball: It takes a bit of skill (and guts) to hit a ball traveling towards you at 100 miles per hour. It takes even more skill to catch a ball flying at you at roughly the same speed. But to do both in one night, and to do the latter nine times in a game, that requires guts/skill/a wee bit of insanity. This sport also didn't rank higher because of the excitement factor, seeing as there's only action in about 10% of the 3 hours it takes to watch a game. It's rewarding if you have the patience for it. Some people have it, some people don't.

3. NASCAR: I know what you're thinking. NASCAR isn't exactly a sport. Well, if ping-pong can be considered an Olympic sport, then there's no reason NASCAR doesn't simply qualify as a sport. It takes a lot of skill to maneuver a 3600-pound racecar through 4 turns 200 times every single week. It also takes a lot of, well something, to be on the road 38-40 weekends out of the year. And if you've seen some of the crashes in recent NASCAR memory, you know it takes a lot of guts to drive a racecar. The problem with this sport is, if there aren't a lot of wrecks, which usually there are not, it can be a long 4 and 1/2 hours.
