Who am I?
Being married to an avid NASCAR fan for the past 27 years created my passion for following the series. Primarily Cup and Nationwide followers due to the Speed Channel not being available in Las Vegas without that dreaded cable box.

Tires posted on 07/27/2008
I must say today's race was different. I am impressed by how the drivers and owners handled it. It was what it was. I think Goodyear should be responsible for some of the cost the teams were forced to incur from all of the tire changes. I have an increased admiration for the pit crews. Those guys worked HARD today. It was unfortunately a rather boring race. Approximately 1/3 of all laps run under caution and competition caution at that! There really wasn't much excitement. I am glad they wanted to avoid the issue of blow outs. That could have created some ugly wrecks and more cars torn apart.
Something needs to be done to make sure this issue doesn't come up again. Time for more testing of the tires on the COT and maybe some redesign and new tire companies.

Changes posted on 07/16/2008
TNT definitely improved! I enjoyed listening to Kyle Petty. Now on to a new set of announcers and a new network.
And speaking of new, there are some new teams coming up for 2009. I think Tony will do GREAT as a team owner/driver. He has grown so much with the sport and is obviously a great study of how to do things right. I will miss him in the Orange car, but as with Junior I will adjust!
It is alco great to see the young drivers that are coming up. Joey will, I sure, provide us with some interesting driving in the next several years. There is a maturity to him and it was nice to hear him say he was focused on now and winning in the 20 Nationwide car and not looking at 2009 and possibly being in the 20 in the cup car.

Hot Nascar cars posted on 06/13/2008
As the temperatures are rising here in Las Vegas, today's RJ had a column about the heat in the new style Nascar vehicles. Dale Jr. was obviously suffering when he climbed out of his car at the end of Sunday's race. Denny Hamlin and Brian Vickers made comments about the extreme heat. With the design of the cars creating somewhat of a greenhouse effect and the safety changes that may contributed to holding warmth in, will the heat become a safety issue of its own for the drivers? Especially in some of the hotter and more humid race tracks. There is a reason they race here in March and not August.

TNT vs Fox Broadcasting posted on 06/09/2008
Second half of the Cup season has begun and I miss Fox already. TNT's broadcast yesterday seemed to be more commercials than race. The first two cautions occurred at commercial break and there weren't even replays to know why, when the camera came back "live", the field was under caution. Fox always ran the ticker at the top indicating laps and various difference of the the drivers - time behind, speed, etc. Towards the end of the race TNT didn't even have the laps posted so as a viewer you had no clue where the race was in its progress. They did put it up with about 30 laps left. The camera people for TNT aren't as skilled in following the action either. What is with zoomed out shots where you can barely make out the cars on the track?
I miss the Fox announcers enthusiasm and knowledge. Kyle Petty did a good job, but the others were blah in comparison to the first half of the season. I know we go through it every year, but I really wish Fox could broadcast the entire season. Any one have any thoughts on the change?
